This pattern can be made in any number of stitches in multiples of 7 to fit the head. I recommend you measure the person’s head, if possible, before choosing a size. Children at age 6 have about 90% of their adult head size. I have a small adult head even though I’m a tall woman and fit the child size.
Medium weight yarn, 4mm hook 7 st ~2 inches
Baby: 7 x 9 = 63 stitches ~17 in circumference
Toddler: 7X 10 = 70 Stitches ~19 in circumference
Child/Small Adult: 7 x 11 = 77 stitches ~21in circumference
Adult: 7 x 12 = 84 stitches ~23in circumference
