Add a crochet hanger top to a half-towel that has been serged or zigzagged across the top. This pattern begins with single crocheting across the top of the towel by jamming your hook through the fabric, but you could also begin by blanket-stitching across with a large needle.

After that you alternate rows of dc across with rows of drastic decreasing until you get to the buttoned strap that hangs the towel on a refrigerator or oven handle.

I used an F/5 hook (3.75mm) but gauge is far from crucial and I expect many people would want to increase the hook size. This requires one 1” diameter button and less than a half ounce (14g) of yarn; as with anything whose job description involves getting wet, cotton is best.
