The “Crocheted Rag Gift Basket” is my original design.

After selling several baskets over the Christmas Season that I designed, I decided to offer my original patterns to others.

The perfect gift basket is designed for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Mother’s Day Add candy, fancy soaps or toiletries, potpourri, or a coffee mug with tea and hot chocolate packets for the perfect gift! Also, great for storing needlework, bowl fillers, silk flowers or whatever.

The finished size is 10” x 5” base; 6” tall at handles; 5“ tall at sides; and 7 1/2” x 5” top opening.

These are fast to make and take less than 3 yards of fabric. I used bedsheets that I purchased at either Missions or Salvation Army. It is best to crochet strips of cotton content. Too much polyester makes the basket sag a bit; see the photo of three and look at the basket to the far right. If you like saggy, then it is perfect. Another idea…I cut strips out of my Dad’s shirts, sewed them together, and crocheted a basket for my mother for Christmas in memory of my Dad…what a keepsake to display on the dining room table! So get out the rotary cutter and start looking for things around the house to cut up for this basket pattern…pillowcases, tableclothes, sheets, curtains, etc; I have previously used all of these for lovely baskets.

Be sure to watch for more patterns.
