About 30 years ago, my Mom brought home a holiday pin from work. Someone there had made these adorable ice skates, using a paperclip, a safety pin and blue and white yarn. I loved this pin and wore every year until I just forgot I had it. Five years ago, my co-worker and I volunteered to decorate for my company’s holiday party and we went with a winter / snow theme. I suddenly remembered the ice skates and dug them out to see if I could re-create the pattern. Luckily, these simple adorable skates were easy to figure out and I quickly wrote up directions and distributed them to willing helpers! We obtained the number of employees from our HR Department (100 - men and women separately) and began our fevered project (we only had 2 weeks to make these!). We made white skates with blue trim for the girls and black skates with blue trim for the boys and had them finished in time -- right down to the pom poms! They were handed out with the seating cards and everyone wore them at the party and throughout that winter. Some of us still have these skates hanging in our cubicles!
