These were destined originally to be called simply oatmeal socks, after the colour of the wool used, Truly’s Cygnet 4 ply fingering in shade 2046, Oatmeal. However, as I brought the socks to life on my needles, it occurred to me that the lacy meandering teardrops looked more like the large rivulets of tears that might form if a crocodile really were to weep.

The lace pattern is really quite simple to master. If you have never made socks before, then these are a great place to start as the pattern is written row by row, and the final results are impressive.

Hope you enjoy them!
