I love trails that cross because I can make a hike as long or short as I want. So, when I was working on my twisting trails socks, a friend suggested that I have the trails cross and I thought these would be perfect in a pair of mittens. I also added some background that made me think of the mountains because my favorite hiking trails are in the mountains.

This pattern involves:

  • magic loop knitting
  • Twisted ribbing
  • stranded colorwork using 2 different colors
  • increasing stitches
  • decreasing stitches

The colorwork pattern is in chart only. There is a chart for the left mitten, right mitten, and the thumb.

The cuff and afterthought thumb is worked the same way for the left and right mitten.
