This graceful cowl is reminiscent of London’s Crystal Palace in Hyde Park. With rich Victorian elements, the borders are derived from Weldon’s Practical Crochet (first published in the late 1880s) and reflect the great arch of the Crystal Palace’s façade.

Worked in the round, the cowl features a garter stitch central panel and crocheted borders, and is a rewarding project for needle workers at any level of experience. Both the knitting and crocheted stitches are easy for beginners to learn, and satisfyingly straightforward if you already have mastery with both skills.
