I saw this guy at the gym with a cool tattoo of a scorpion, and of course, my first thought was, “Hey, I can knit that! And really, who wouldn’t want to put a cuddly knit scorpion in their baby’s crib at night?”

I made a prototype in yellow on size 8 needles, and then the real version to test the instructions on 5s. The claws are a variation on Molly Lincoln’s inspiring Lobster (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/knit-lobster), but with increases and decreases to make the knuckles and with a quick stitch together to give the more scorpion-like bend inwards.

OK, I finally put the pattern up on a blog, created for just this purpose. I’ll try to transfer the pictures to the blog page as well, but I’m new at this, so please bear with me. Email if you have questions about the design. And, really, I can’t say this enough. Go read Molly’s instructions for the lobster claws. She explains it better than I could try, and her design is amazing.

Next up, I think I’ll work on a realistic spider. Just in a Halloween mood, I think.
