This cozy set is worked with an easy brioche stitch. Brioche creates a stretchy , lofty, and warm fabric, while staying light. I think this is one of the easiest brioche stitches. When I researched the stitch I found, it is not a true brioche stitch but rather a very good copy. it has been called a fisherman’s rib, or a shaker stitch in the past, but now has been commonly included with brioche knitting.
This fits newborn to 3 months. The circumference stretches easily to 18” . The neck, collar and button flap, also stretch to the full circumference. I made this cocoon 20” in length.
I chose Bernat Softee Baby, which is classified as #3 DK weight, but the gauge can be accomplished with most sport weights too. The cap is knit with size 5 and 6 circulars, (16-18” max.) And I also used size 5 double point needles for crown of cap. The cocoon starts and ends with size 6 circular needles, with the body knit on size 7. Both cap and cocoon are knit almost completely in the round, except for the button flap and the collar on the cocoon.
