From the pattern description:

Dad’s Thick Sweater is meant to be a man-sized women’s sweater. The idea is that it should look as if it were borrowed from Dad, yet the sleeve length should fit the person who wears the sweater.

The sweater is knitted sideways, from one seam to the other. All borders are knitted on the garment afterwards; these are knitted in stockinette stitch and are all double, i.e., they have been folded. The pattern around the neck is an adaptation of the Scanlan textured sweater from Luggude (see p. 17).
