I, like so many others, fell in love with Daisy’s hat she wore to the picnic with Mr. Mason. She also wore it in her “goodbye scene” with Alfred, part of which was unfortunately relegated to the cutting room floor. Here’s what REALLY happened:

Alfred (looking sheepish): You know Ivy turned me down.

Daisy (looking honest and true): I do, yes.

Alfred (looking blind): I think I’ve been a bit blind where she’s concerned.

Daisy (looking agreeable): Love is blind.

Alfred (looking smitten): Maybe, but I’ve been a fool, you’ve been so good to me, so true, but I could never see it, never, until I SAW YOU IN THAT ADORABLE HAT!!!

Daisy (looking adorable): That’s kind of you to say, and good to hear. I made it myself, late at night by candlelight in my garret room high atop the Abbey.

Alfred (smacking his head): You cook, and also crochet??? I HAVE been a fool!!!

Daisy (looking like it’s payback time): I loved you Alfred, I’ll not deny it. But that’s done with now, and what I felt won’t come back. It’s time for you to go your way, and me to go mine (with my hat).

Alfred (looking crushed): I hope you wish me well, Daisy.

Daisy: (looking forgiving) I do Alfred. So well, so very well. Friends forever.

Alfred (looking enterprising): Friends forever, Daisy. And now this really is goodbye. But before I go, do you think you could give me the hat pattern as a goodbye gift instead of the food basket? (I could make a mint selling that hat pattern in London…)

Daisy (looking smug): Not a chance…
