Daphne was a graceful nymph in Greek mythology, known for her beauty and deep connection to nature. When pursued by the god Apollo, she was transformed into a laurel tree by her father, the river god Peneus, a story that symbolizes resilience, purity, and harmony with the natural world. The laurel itself became a symbol of victory and honor, giving her tale a timeless and inspiring quality.
The Daphne pullover mirrors this elegance with an oversized, boxy fit and an allover cable pattern on the front, back, and sleeves, inspired by the flowing shapes of laurel wreaths. It is knitted seamlessly from the top down, beginning at the back neck with European shoulder construction. The increases over the cable pattern on the back are fully. Stitches are then picked up for the shoulders and front, joined at the underarms, and the body is worked in the round to the hem. The sleeves continue in the laurel-inspired cables, with short-row shaping at the sleeve caps for a better fit. The hem and cuffs are finished with a tubular bind-off, creating a soft, stretchy edge, and the neckband can be worn folded double or left loose as a relaxed funnel neck.
To showcase the cables, unicolor or slightly tonal colorways work best, though tweeds or lightly speckled yarns can also add subtle texture. The pullover can be knit in DK weight yarn or with one strand of fingering weight held together with silk mohair or suri alpaca for a soft haloed effect.
The length of the body and sleeves can be easily adjusted to your measurements. Trying the sweater on as you go helps ensure a perfect fit for your style, making this a versatile and elegant piece for any wardrobe.
