THE INSPIRATION

When I first started The Chesapeake Needle, I never expected such an outpouring of love and support from the maker community. I thought a great way to give back would be to release a free knitting pattern, designed in collaboration with Fairlight Fibers. The Darcy Beanie is amazing because it looks great on everyone and with any outfit! The best part for all my beanie-lovers out there: It’s light enough to be worn year-round.

THE CONSTRUCTION

Knit in the round from the bottom up, this pattern is very simple. You will use a variety of different knitting techniques to help you master the basics, so it’s great for beginners! You will need to know how to knit, purl, knit in the round, and decrease by K2tog.

THE YARN

For this pattern, I highly recommend Blacker Tamar Lustre Blend DK. This yarn is spun from the wool of rare breeds of English sheep, giving a soft and sleek hand with very crisp stitch definition. I used one skein of the color “Trevella.”

MATERIALS

  • Approx 155 yards (142 m) of a DK (3) to worsted (4) weight yarn

  • US size 7 (4.5 mm) 16” circular knitting needles

  • Stitch marker (optional)

  • Tapestry needle

MEASUREMENTS

Approx 10” (25 cm) tall and 15” (38 cm) around when laying flat - don’t worry, this stitch is VERY stretchy!

GAUGE

24 sts x 24 rows = 4” in 1x1 ribbing
