When the mornings are dark and Winter feels like it will never end, then these the mittens I need.
They start with a stretchy band on the fingers which soon doubles so you can tuck your fingers into the mitt for extra warmth. The pattern continues with more stretchy stitches to make a snug fit with negative ease. Uses Front post, front loop, back loops and third loop stitches. Written pattern with photos.

The pattern uses two balls of 35g of a plump sock yarn or 5 ply(sport) weight yarn. Alternatively, single ball of solid yarn can also be used. It was designed for the Dark Sky ombre gradient merino yarn from Changeling Coloured Yarns and has been tested on various sock yarn.

This pattern requires concentration for most rows. While it is quick it is not a project you can make while watching TV or crocheting on auto-pilot. This a pattern that requires focus and a reasonable vocabulary of swear words. It was designed for its looks, not for ease of construction. In fact I made this pattern for me then was asked to share. It is a challenging pattern. But the finished mittens are textured and stretchy and very functional.
