This was another collaboration with The Plucky Knitter!

She needed a modern version of the shawl collared cardigans from the 1940s/50s worn by male movie stars or a favorite grandpa, so I played with a more modern take on the classic. New and interesting cables, a modern fit that skims your curves and ends where your jeans start, and a gorgeous variegated yarn add a little twist to the original.

If you must have this exact cardigan, sign up for the Plucky Knitter’s Moody Broody Gray Club for a sweater’s quantity of deep gray yarn and the pattern - in one package! The first round sold out, but a second round will follow. Check in with thepluckyknitter for details.

If you have something perfect in stash already, you can purchase the pattern here!

And if anyone’s interested, there is a KAL/FAQ thread for the pattern in my Babycocktails Group.

The MOST common question/problem I am getting is in regards to the direction along the seams that tells you to ”stop increasing along the fronts”. Think of your increase row as having 8 M1s, two on each sleeve seam. I mean to stop only the FIRST and LAST M1s in the row. Keep doing the middle 6 M1s on the sleeves and back.

The reason for the direction is that I’m trying to keep the fronts narrower - I like the look of the more open V, and you’ll be adding 3” of button band to the center, so this helps balance the sizing. So sorry if it’s confusing, I know it’s an unusual method, but it’ll work, I promise :-)
