A few autumns ago, I was very excited to be going on a day trip with my best friends involving lots of shopping, eating out and cocktails. The temperature was starting to drop, and I thought it was about time I created a smart pair of luxurious handwarmers which would be perfect for the day - keeping me snug while waiting for the train, yet not too hot in the shops.

These handwarmers are knitted in the round with no shaping and the slot for the thumbhole easily incorporated by knitting it with a length of spare yarn which is later removed to pick up the stitches forming the thumbhole. This method allows for easy pattern continuity.

These handwarmers can be knitted using the magic loop technique or double pointed needles.

These mitts were originally knitted in Lotus Yarns cashmere but as it’s trickier to get hold of in small quantities, I re-knitted them in Jamieson’s Spindrift.

Now also included - pattern for Vintage Stripes mitts - which is a great way to use up excess yarn
