Sherlock is back! Let’s play deductions! This warm chullo hat inspired by ‘The Empty Hearse’ is made of New Zealand sheep wool (rather than Icelandic sheep wool or alpaca yarn), as Sherlock would doubtlessly deduce in seconds, what with his extensive knowledge of natural fibers and their varying tensile strengths), and it comes blissfully free of halitosis!

The ear flaps are knitted flat and then joined to the body of the hat. The hat is then knitted entirely in the round. I used Ashford Tekapo wool, which is reminiscent of the Icelandic Lopi yarns. Though it is an 8-ply yarn, it knits as a worsted weight yarn would in my experience.

You might want to knit a hat like this one for yourself (or for your pet goldfish). But really, why would anyone want a hat like that? Anyone who wears a hat as stupid as this isn’t in the habit of hanging around other people, is he? Or maybe he just doesn’t mind being different, who knows?
