There are many different kinds of Boucle, and while they’re somewhat similar, their differences are the important parts. I had a huge, beautiful, silky, very dark blue skein of Boucle with lighter blue highlights throughout the skein, but it had NO LABEL on it for me to tell you the name of it! This pattern was made with it, among others.

All Boucle is not the same, but I’ve come to find that the majority of it is usually interchangeable. This one has a crimped strand with bits and pieces of softly loose yarn attached at regular intervals to achieve the look and feel of this piece.

It’s become a pleasure for me to work with Boucle and I’ve made a few more pattern with it and plan to make more. I have some yellow to use for spring! I was able to learn to move at a fairly fast pace without even trying to, but I prefer to go slow and enjoy a project! You’ll love the stitching of this piece and your end result. It’s definitely worth trying, then you’ll want to use it over & over!

You could try Bernat Baby Boucle, or Bernat Soft Boucle, or Paton’s Boucle, or simply look around at all the various types, or maybe you have some in your stash but thought you couldn’t use it.

I’ve concluded that some crocheters may have been using too large of hooks and the wrong stitches for Boucle, and thru my experiments I made some awesome pieces. My large skein looked to be approx 8-10 ozs, but then ended up with plenty left over to make at least a matching wide headband with a yarn flower attached.
