Demeter was the Greek goddess of the harvest and is usually pictured with sheaves of wheat or fruit and vegetables. The twisted stitches in this beret twist away from each other in imitation of an ear of wheat and the gently undulating ridges of the finished hat give it a lush, organic shape reminiscent of autumn fruits and harvest festival displays.
Miranda Jollie enjoys knitting and designing as a contrast to her day job as a criminal barrister. Prior to studying law, she took a degree in ancient history and retains her interest in classics; she is also a keen cook and allotment holder!

Hints and Tips
If you haven’t worked twisted stitches before, it may help
you to know they are basically a way of working a single
stitch cable without a cable needle.
