Aquifer (n.): an underground layer of rock or earth which holds groundwater.

Even though their value isn’t always readily seen on the surface, aquifers hold precious water;

They are a source of refreshment for those who come in contact with them.

This pattern is dedicated to the people who are aquifers –

They have great depth and give freely to those who need them.

This particular blanket was designed for my sister in law,

Who is an “aquifer” in my life –

She gives freely and abundantly of her love and life to everyone around her.

This blanket is for one of a set of surprise twins she is expecting.

I hope this project refreshes and invigorates you,

Inspiring you to love and give to those in your life who need it.

MATERIALS
* Worsted weight yarn in two colors. The sample uses Lion Brand Ferris Wheel in two colors. This yarn is 100% acrylic, single ply, 270 yds (247 m) per 85 g cake. Colors used in the sample are:
“Cherry On Top (610)” (Color A) and
“Full Moon (607)” (Color B)
Color 1 (Squares): 525 yds (480 m); 2 balls
Color 2 (Zig Zag): 775 yds (708 m); 3 balls

  • Crochet hook size J (6.0 mm)
  • Crochet hook size G+ (4.5 mm)

TO ADJUST THE BLANKET SIZE

  • To make this blanket taller, each Tunisian section requires 65 yds (60 m), and each zig zag section requires 95 yds (87 m).
  • If you want to increase the width as well:
  • Each Tunisian square requires approximately 5.5 yds (5 m).
  • Each Zig Zag Hill (from a increase to a increase, 7 rows high) requires approximately 11 yds (10 m)

This pattern has been thoroughly tech edited and tested for clarity, functionality, and errors.

Some makers have had trouble with the initial foundation chain being too tight; one option is to go up a hook size or two, another option is to skip directly to the chevron section, eliminating the foundational half-triangles entirely.
