d’Histoire Naturelle Official Scheepjes 2020 CAL
The d’Histoire Naturelle Official Scheepjes 2020 CAL & Read-A-Long is designed by Scheepjes Blogger Christina Hadderingh from A Spoonful of Yarn blog. The design for this spectacular crocheted blanket is inspired by the many galleries of the breathtakingly beautiful Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle (Museum of Natural History) in Paris, which is highlighted in the book All The Light We Cannot See by the award-winning author, Anthony Doerr.

Pattern
During the Scheepjes Crochet-A-Long, both adventurous beginners and experienced crocheters from around the world will have the opportunity to follow a unique journey in creating the stunning d’Histoire Naturelle blanket. The CAL & Read-A-Long will begin on September 23, 2020. Over the course of 11 weeks, the FREE PDF crochet pattern will be released in 6 parts on Wednesdays at 12pm (CEST/CET), covering 1 to 2 weeks, rather than weekly releases as in previous CALs. The pattern will be available in English (UK & US), Dutch and German in the Official International and Dutch Facebook groups as well as on Scheepjes.com. Additional languages may be made available during the CAL as participants are provided with a translation template in the Facebook groups to translate the CAL into their own languages.

In the Facebook groups, participants will interact with and receive extensive support from the global Scheepjes crafting community, consisting of over 100,000 members, the highly skilled mods and admin, and of course, from the designer herself, Christina. Throughout the CAL, Christina will be sharing detailed photo tutorials on her blog to help participants through the more tricky parts of the project. Scheepjes Blogger Esther Dijkstra, from It’s all in a Nutshell blog, will be providing further support for the written pattern with comprehensive video tutorials, available in English and Dutch for both right and left handed crafters. The videos will be shared via Esther’s blog, as well as in the Facebook groups and on Scheepjes.com.

On 16 September, Scheepjes will share a Tips & Tricks PDF in the Facebook groups and on their website to help participants prepare for the CAL. The Tips & Tricks contains useful information on materials, special stitches and techniques and instructions for how to crochet a gauge swatch, which gives participants the chance get support in the Facebook group before the CAL begins.

Read-A-Long and Book Club Sunday
To encourage participants to take part in the Read-A-Long aspect of our CAL, Scheepjes and Christina are hosting weekly Book Club Sunday meet-ups via our Official Scheepjes Facebook Groups, where we are thrilled to be sharing unique interview footage (English language only) from none other than the author of All the Light We Cannot See himself, Anthony Doerr. Each week of this CAL, a video will be released containing short interviews that engages with the Book Club Sunday reading material for the week to come
