The Diabeanie hat was originally created to raise diabetes awareness and support the International Diabetes Federations (IDF) “Life for a Child” campaign.

For every pattern sold 1$ goes to the “Life for a child campaign”. By donating 1$ you can provide a child in need with type 1 diabetes with insulin, blood glucose monitoring equipment and essential clinical care. For further information please visit:
http://www.idf.org/lifeforachild

On World Health Day 2016, 7 April, of the WHO which was dedicated to stop the worldwide rise of diabetes the Diabeanie pattern was available for free. Nevertheless, 85 knitters bought the pattern during the days around that date and 85$ went to the IDF campaign. Thank you!

What connects the pattern with diabetes? The design of the hat is both lovely and informative, with each round representing an age and the beads knit into those rounds symbolizing the number of people afflicted with type 2 diabetes at that time of life.As an example, the numbers of the scottish population were used for the pattern, because data are available for all age groups including older age. However, the pattern can be adapted to data from other countries as well. Check out the wordwide diabetes atlas of the IDF for details.

Thank you Misssetters for checking the pattern.
