The Diamond Scale stitch used in this cowl is an alternative to Crocodile Stitch that features a smooth solid back and it is easier to increase and decease in size. It features a half sized scale to make straight edges to the scale section. This pattern is made in the round and worked bottom up. The fabric of the cowl is made with Back loop double crochet. The scales are made in the Front Loop of the same row. The scales naturally curve down.
The cowl features a seam or gap in the scales at the end of each row where buttons or other accessories can be added.
This pattern uses about 70g to 100g of sock or 4 ply yarn and works well with solid colours, gradients and variegated yarn.
The testers rated this pattern as Intermediate Skill level.
