What am I missing?
Dianthus superbus Cowl
Dianthus superbus
I know it’s a bit unrealistic, but I tend to think of plants as being made up of curved lines and rounded forms. Graceful tendrils and fat fruits come to mind more readily than straight lines and sharp edges. So when I saw this image I was immediately struck by the angular nature of the plants it depicts. I was certain it would inspire interesting projects. There aren’t many cables used in this collection, but they seemed like the perfect way to reinterpret the wild exuberance of the frilly petals. They make for an especially striking sock. The cross section of the whole flower provided the starting point for the cowl. I wanted to make something that used only straight lines, but still maintained an organic form. I’m thrilled with the result.
