Something that makes me smile every time we visit Ireland is the way many houses are painted in bright and cheerful colours – what a happy sight, even on days when the weather is dreary.

The socks are knitted cuff down with a heel flap and gusset. To accommodate the tighter fit of stranded knitting, these parts are worked on larger needles. The gusset decreases are done in pattern on the sole.

The socks come in two sizes, women’s M to fit leg circumference 18.75 cm (7.25”) and L to fit leg circumference 22.5 cm (8.75”). Foot length results in a minimum of 22.5 (24.25) cm 8.75 (9.5)” when knit as given in the pattern. Notes on variations are given.

Please note that that the colourwork motifs are charted only and there are no written instructions for the motifs provided.

Material: 2 skeins of fingering weight yarn with high contrast and a yardage of approximately 400 m (440 yds) per 100 g.
Notions: 2 stitch markers, darning needle.

The Dingle pattern is also available as part of the Irish at Heart eBook.
