This is an easy scarf designed to make the most of one of my special hand-dyed yarns. Most garter stitch scarves are rectangular, and they tend to stretch and develop a “tongue” shape that bothers me. This is the solution! The points hang beautifully, and the bias wraps lovingly around your neck to keep you toasty warm. (Incidentally, I admit I’m the ‘ditz’ referred to in the title.)

The garter stitch is simple enough that beginners won’t be thrown, but watching the subtle variation in colours will keep the more practiced knitters interested too. The simple increase & decrease used in this pattern will also build the “stitch vocabulary” and confidence of beginners!

The yarn used in this pattern is from my “Oddball” family, and is cashmere & wool (for softness), viscose (for drape), & nylon (for durability). It has been custom dyed, and a very limited number of kits for this scarf are available on Etsy – seller name is DollybirdWorkshop. It has a very soft, appealing texture when knit up – almost like a luxury terry.
