This scarf is based on the scarf worn by Tom Baker in the TV series Doctor Who. My scarf is approx. 8” wide by 18-19” long without fringe. (The original was wider and knitted. If you want a wide scarf, you can add to the foundation chain, but remember to account for that in your yarn purchase.)

The rows are figured using my personal tension and referencing Gene Fender’s inches pattern at doctorwhoscarf.com (with permission) for the first half. I extended those for the second half with the idea that the original scarf was created using remnants of previous scarves.

The yarn used is DK weight and was purchased from Deramores in the UK. I do not live in the UK but Deramores yarn arrives even quicker than some yarn stores in the U.S. so I do recommend them no matter where you live, if you order yarn online.

I suggest purchasing 2 skeins of each color though some colors may not take 2, especially if you ordering out of country.

If you cannot get DK yarn, sport yarn is a good substitute. I like the DK weight because these scarves are so long that they are weighty and I live in Louisiana where we have few wintery days.
