Dodona was a temple in ancient Greece and the oldest oracle in history. The temple there centered around a massive oak tree. The great hero Achilles, in The Iliad, sought guidance from this ancient oracle tree. Oak trees are an ancient flora, a tree revered throughout history. Many cultures linked oaks with lightning, as they were the tree most commonly struck during a storm. The wide lace “leaves” are meant to be reminiscent of the wide leaves of the English oak, Quercus robur. The zig-zag lace framing each oak, represent its partner: lightning. The combination of these two icons creates a beautiful, elegant, and timeless shawl. Easily dressed up or dressed down, Dodona is a great compliment to any outfit.

Sample is knit with 3 skeins of Berroco Fiora, in color 3835.
