This pattern is a size customizable dog collar cover, with an attached bowtie.

The cover is designed to cover a standard clip dog collar so that the cover begins and ends at the clip, leaving it functional for removal. This means you can knit the bowtie to be the perfect fit for your pup! The D ring is accessible, which leaves the collar just as functional as without the cover.

Although it will be more fiddly to put on your furry friend, the pattern could still be used on a buckle collar.

Lastly, if you wish, you could forgo the ribbing and sew the ends together, creating a strictly decorative ‘collar’ (just be sure not to rely on a decorative collar for safety).

Note: Please be thoughtful when putting this on your pet. Be aware if they’re the type to chew and potentially hurt themselves by ingesting the yarn. If you knit it as a decorative collar, do not rely on it for use as a functional collar. If you have multiple dogs, consider removing it when they’re left alone together as the bowtie could be pulled on or chewed by another dog. Please be cautious when leaving your pet wearing this in places that it could get caught and therefore injure them, and otherwise use an abundance of caution. Though this is not an inherently dangerous item, in the wrong scenario almost anything has the potential to cause harm. I would hate for this item to cause any harm to befall your pet.
