Dog Days 5 is a bias-knit triangle shawl shape boiled down to its most basic form (and then complicated again very slightly--this pattern includes both the very basic version and one that uses the selvedge trick from the Offshoot scarf).

It’s an easy project--if you can knit, purl, and work a yarnover increase, you’ve got all the skills you need.

It can be knit in any yarn, at any gauge—while the .PDF provides full instructions for a worsted-weight kerchief, there is really no set gauge (though I’d recommend going fairly traditional and not too loose) and no set yarn. Because of the construction, it is fully customizable.

The combination of eyelets and buttons makes the finished kerchief adjustable, too!

Materials:
About 85 yards of Malabrigo Yarn Merino Worsted, or any substitute yarn. Yardage will vary.
1 16” circular needle in US7-8/4.5-5.0mm, or size needed for gauge.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Optional: 1-2 buttons to fit eyelets, about 7/8”-1”, though again, this varies by yarn.

Gauge:
Gauge is 15 sts and 30 rows over 4” of blocked garter stitch for the worsted version. Although size and fit are important to this project, you can knit this design in any yarn, at any weight, and at any gauge. Please chose a gauge and yarnweight that works for you.

Measurements:
As shown, this kerchief measures about 23”/58cm long, with some overlap between the button and buttonholes. I’d recommend planning for some negative ease—the garter stitch will stretch a lot in most wool yarns.

(I’ve heard that if you have long hair, buttons can be a bad mix! Feel free to substitute a snap or icord ties.)
