Description

Dojeling is a fast, easy mitered shawl, and the name says it all: Tibetan for “diamond island,” it captures the essence of this design.

The shawl is constructed around a central diamond-shaped panel worked in a mitered seed stitch. The technique is easy to master and quick to knit, and because the shawl is worked in sections, your project stays contained and manageable throughout.

The wings form crisp points that resist curling, colorwork is a breeze, and the design is resilient and accommodating to let your yarn shine. Make it classic in cashmere, handsome in handspun, sleek in silk blends or warm in wool.

Dojeling features a bias seed stitch, so the fabric is light and flexible, but more refined than garter. It also offers both coverage and drape, so it’s ideal for a cool day, a nursing mother, or a friend in need of comfort or encouragement.

The pattern is written for the sock/fingering weight yarn of your choice and readily adjusts to different weights and multi-stranding. It includes directions for three sizes (S, M, L) along with tips, tricks, simple modifications and a handy Quick Reference guide to make customization easy.

Worked on slightly larger than typical needles, the versions shown have been lightly blocked without pins or wires. To increase the dimensions and create a more open fabric, simply block more aggressively with pins and/or wires if desired. It’s your choice.

Skill Level

Dojeling is suited to any knitter who can cast on, knit, purl, kfb, kfpb, k2tog, k3tog, slip stitches and bind off.
