Dolores del Río was the first major Latin cross-over star in Hollywood, and was considered, by critics and film historians, one of the most beautiful faces that have emerged in the Hollywood cinema. With the passage of time, and even after her death, her physical characteristics and her success as a Latin American female figure in the international cinema have made her into an object of veneration in the cultural, artistic and cinematographic circles of her homeland, Mexico, and other countries.

Skill Level: Intermediate, basic and repetitive lace stitches coupled with garter stripes, and an applied lace border (which has no rest rows).
Materials: Approximately 720 yards (660m) of fingering weight yarn in a Main color (MC); and 420 yards (385m) of fingering weight in a Contrast color (CC). The shawl pictured used two skeins of Madeline Tosh Twist Light for the MC (purple), and one skein for the CC (gold)
Needles: US4 (3.5mm) circular needle of 32” or more (You’ll need the length to hold the stitches toward the end)
Tools: Cable needle, tapestry needle (for weaving in ends), scissors, row counter (or other method of counting rows— there are a lot to keep track of)
Gauge: 20 stitches = 4 inches(10cm) in blocked garter stitch.
Sizing: This creates a large pi shawl of approximately 200-210o depending upon the blocking. It is large enough to snuggle into (even for a larger person).
