Don't Fence Me in
This elegant design started as an exercise in using travelling stitches as a way to divide the mitten into its different sections.
FINISHED SIZE: Measures 8” long, 7” around palm. Fits up to 8” circumference around palm.
YARN: Approx 200 yds of heavy fingering weight to light sport weight for a pair of mitts. Sample shown in Bijou Spun Himalayan Trail, 75/25 Yak / Merino Blend, 200 yd/56gm, natural.
GAUGE: 28 sts & 44 rows = 4” in St st in the rnd with the larger needles.
NEEDLES: US 2/2.75 mm (or size to obtain gauge) & US 1.5/2.5mm (use needles one size smaller than large needles). Your choice of Magic Loop, 2 circulars or DPNs.
NOTIONS: at least 3 stitch markers; tapestry needle; waste yarn or extra circular needle for provisional cast on; cable needle.
SKILLS NEEDED: knitting in the round, reading charts, cabling, twisted stitches, provisional cast-on, hemmed bind off, Vikkel braid. Instructions given for Vikkel braid.
The mitten is primarily charted. Charts are offered in various formats/sizes so you can choose what works best for you.
