Dotty is a fun loose-fitting cowl or snood, perfect for Autumn or Spring when a little more warmth is needed around your neck and shoulders. It is knit in the round at a large, loose gauge and is made in 4ply/fingering and silk-mohair laceweight. It is designed to take advantage of the heat trapping properties of the fluffy yarn, but you could use silk-alpaca or other fluffy laceweight yarn. Dotty can be made to any size, limited only by your yarn quantities, and looks particularly good as a snood to warm your ears as well as your neck. The pattern features a simple slip-stitch colourwork construction to give an interesting texture.

Materials
Any 4ply/fingering yarn for the main colour and any silk-mohair or silk-alpaca laceweight for the intermediate dotty stripes.
The short narrow cream and pink sample was knit in:
Yarn A: Debbie Bliss Fine Donegal; 4ply/fingering; 95% Merino wool, 5% cashmere; 379 m / 415 yds per 100 g / 3.53 oz; sample used 28 g / 107 m / 118 yds in colour Snowdrift.
Yarn B: Rowan Kidsilk Haze; lace/2ply; 70% kid mohair, 30% silk; 210 m/ 230 yds per 25 g / 0.88 oz; sample used 5 g / 42 m / 46 yds in Candy Girl.
The medium wide blue and pink sample was knit in:
Yarn A: Debbie Bliss Fine Donegal; as above; sample used 63 g / 239 m / 262 yds in colour Lapis Lazuli.
Yarn B: Rowan Kidsilk Haze; as above; sample used 13.5 g / 114 m / 125 yds in Candy Girl.

Finished size
Suggested heights are 25 cm / 10” for a short cowl, 40 cm / 16” for a medium cowl, 55 cm / 22” for a generous snood, but you can make Dotty in any height you want. Two widths are given in the pattern, narrow (wide), but again you can make the cowl in any width, just cast on fewer or more stitches in multiples of 5 stitches.

Finished sizes of the samples shown are:

Cream and pink short narrow cowl: 22 cm / 8 ¾” tall x 62.5 cm / 25” in circumference.
Blue and pink medium wide cowl: 33 cm / 13 ¼” tall x 100 cm / 40” in circumference.
