Tension is 5.5 stitches and 7.5 rows to one inch on No 8 needles over stocking stitch,

To test your tension:
Using number 8 needles cast on 11 stitches and work 15 rows in stocking stitch, Cast off. If the piece you have knitted measures two inches by two inches your tension is correct. If it is larger your tension is too loose; try a size finer needle. If it is smaller, your tension is too tight; try a size thicker needle.
