The special effects of this doily are achieved by working with two strands of thread at the same time. Some stitches are worked as a single strand with the #8 hook and other stitches are worked with both strands together, using the #1 hook.

This doily also uses an original stitch called the Cord Stitch. Instructions for working this stitch, as well as any other special stitch, is included in the pattern.
