Pattern is available in two sizes: an anklet-height sock with a bobble-border cuff, and a knee-high sock with a plain cuff.

Needle size really what mentioned in the project of these socks!

Yarn Requirements:

  • Ankle-high sock uses 125 yards (115m) each of colors A and B, and 50 yards (46m) color C. Yarn is Colinette Cadenza.
  • Knee-high sock uses 110 yards (101m) each of colors A-D.

Gauge:

  • Ankle-high sock: 22 stitches and 32 rounds = 4” in stockinette stitch in double-knitting
  • Knee-high sock: 21 stitches and 32 rounds = 4” in stockinette stitch in double-knitting

Additional information:
The DD explanation should state that when the four stitches are arranged A,A, B,B: then SSK with A, p2tog with B.
For anyone who is wondering about the double knitting; the Doublefun socks are only knit double, but worn ‘single’. Only the cuff for the Mi-Parti remains doubleknit when the socks are worn.

The text below is what i wrote about the stockings when i sent them to the Think Outside the Sox Contest in January 2009:

All you need is:
curious mind with a will to learn
a couple of balls of different coloured yarn
fascinating and challenging Tubular cast-on
a couple of thousand knit and purl stitches
a couple of dozen k2tog’s and p2tog’s
a couple of hundred turnings of the work
a couple of increased stitches
a couple of dozen short rows
a couple of hundred yarn overs
a couple of moving stitches form needle to needle
numerous counting of rows
2-5 double pointed needles (mainly only two)
and something that I might have forgotten to mention

How can a human mind imagine how the sock will fit, as the sock grows to fullness flat as a pancake and downwards from the cuff… like a stream or a poem…

Someone figured out tubular cast-on,
someone figured out double knitting

I’m happy and I thank the Lord for this gift,

I was allowed to join this group as equal and enjoy this lonely path that no one has perhaps walked before,

on this path that I feel is mine and – this feeling has touched me before.

Join me on this path!

The challenge in realizing these socks was to keep them as simple and as plain as possible, so that there’s only the essential, and nothing more.

I wanted to pick just these discordant colours, nothing too tame. Pure lambswool might not be too durable but I didn’t let it bother me, these are only model socks.

Värit halusin valita juuri näin riitasointuisiksi, ne eivät saaneet olla ihan sävy sävyyn.
