This sock pattern was inspired while taking a quiet walk on the beach at low tide, watching the waves of water coast onto shore and then rock back out to sea. I noticed the “hourglass” design the waves were making in the sand. It made me take pause and remind myself to try to remember to appreciate all the little “bits” of sand in my life. The socks remind me that “The sand in the hourglass flows only one way. Don’t waste precious time. Live your life with purpose now.”- Bill Strickland.

The pattern is written for DPNs referring to Needles 1-4. You can accommodate it for Magic Loop or 2 circulars.

NOTIONS: Stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round, A tapestry needle for weaving ends.

PATTERN STYLE: The pattern contains written as well as chart instructions. There is a key and full abbreviation list included as well.

DIFFICULTY: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate: Front/Back Cross and Front/Back Twist cabling, increases, decreases, and sock construction.

YARN: This pattern is better suited for solid or lightly tonal yarn to show off the detail of the pattern, which may get lost in a heavy variegated yarn.
