Knitting entrelac is like going down the Rabbit hole — as soon as you take the first step the adventure begins and the journey gets more and more exciting.

This lovely cowl starts with just one block, the biggest block at the front corner. With every new tier the number of blocks increases but their size decreases. Initially each corner is worked separately until later, when cowl has grown big enough, both corners are joined for knitting in the round. The edgings of this cowl subtly outlines the cowl carefully highlighting characteristics of the entrelac fabric.
The best yarn for this project would be sport weight yarn (300 m/100 g) with gradient colour changes. Depending on the size of cowl you will need 130 to 200 g. You may also alternate the yarns between tiers either from 2 (or more) different balls or from opposite ends of the same ball. You may use leftovers and scraps as well. Let the colour changes of the yarn guide you!
It is possible to make this cowl in just the right size for the recipient. By choosing the right yarn and edging option it can be great for any gender.

Next step for the brave knitter, eager to continue on this journey, would be my entrelac mittens Knit me! or the Wonderland Hat.
