The Down to Earth Hat is quick to knit and suitable for beginners, but fun for experienced knitters too. The hat is knit seamlessly in the round from the bottom up. It is a tight fitting hat without much slouch, but long enough to cover the ears. The ridge rib pattern creates a very stretchy fabric, the sizes are quite forgiving. The ridge rib pattern looks great in any yarn; solid, semisolid, variegated, gradient or self-striping.

Sizing: Toddler (Child, Adult S/M, Adult L)
To fit approx. head circumference of 45-48 (50-53, 54-56, 58 -->) cm / 17.5-19 (19.5-21, 21-22, 23 -->)

Note that the hat is very very stretchy hence the sizing is forgiving and may overlap more than indicated above. How tight fitting a hat should be comes down to personal preference. I prefer the adult size S/M and my head circumference is 56 cm.

Materials: 90 (105, 130, 170) m / 100 (115, 140, 185) yards DK or worsted weight yarn, not including yarn for pompom.

Gauge should be 20-22 sts per 10 cm/4in in unstretched ridge rib pattern. Fabric will be very elastic so gauge may vary for more or less elastic yarns. For bouncy type/superwash yarns I would recommend a tighter gauge, while for less elastic/non-SW yarns I would recommend a looser gauge as they tend to stretch less with wear.

The pattern includes a discount code for the matching Down to Earth Fingerless Mitts!
