“Dragonfire, burns so hot, burns so bright, Dragonfire…So small I am, so newly made. Within me a flame to keep me unafraid, my Dragonfire… I am small, but complete. I have light. I have heat… in the dark, in the cold, I can summon my own Dragonfire!” -Sandra Boynton, Dog Train

These socks were created to celebrate both my love of mythical creatures, but also the Zombie Knitpocalypse Retreat of 2020. Each year the Stockinette Zombies (Megan Williams and Amy Spinler) throw an amazing party that had to be moved to a virtual platform due to COVID-19. This years’ mascots are a dragon and a unicorn, which hold special meaning to me.

The song I quoted above is one I sang with my kids when they were small. It gave me hope that they would have all the strength they would ever need in their little hearts. Now the ZK dragon brings to me a sense of strength. I am reminded that I have all I need to keep me unafraid during this time. We are apart, but together.

You, too, can summon your own Dragonfire- find that spark inside you to protect you and those you love from the negativity of the world. These socks use a simple, repetitive slip stitch pattern and gorgeous yarn from Colorful Eclectic create warm socks to keep you strong on the coldest of nights.

Materials:
100g of superwash sock yarn plus a 20g mini-skein for toes and cuffs (contrast color).

The pattern is written for magic loop.
