My Son wanted a dragon hat, and I couldn’t find a pattern he liked. He loves his fish hat I made him, so this is a heavily adapted version of this great pattern. My son picked the colors and was pretty specific about how it should look, but here it is in case anyone else’s child has the same vision.

Postscript: Knit this pattern at your own risk. Since its posting it has been described as “the most confusing” and “worst pattern ever written”. I am not a designer, know nothing of pattern writing, and posted this for free only in hopes it would help others. I have considered deleting it, but in looking at the associated projects, it has stimulated work much more creative than mine, as it was intended so, for now, I’ll leave it up.

People seem to have found the instructions for the wings particularly confusing, which makes sense since I made up the method as I went along and didn’t really have words to describe it. Here is an explanation I sent to one person regarding the wing instructions at the end of the pattern:

Front edge: you co 1 stitch on each of the dps at that end for 10 rounds. Then you 3 needle bind off 1 stitch (which binds off one stitch off each dp) for each of 10 rounds

Back edge: each time you get to the back edge, you co 1 s on each dp 3 times, then 3 needle bo 1 stitch for 3 rounds.

Also, there are some wonderful instructions for different wings in the projects posted on the pattern.
