When it comes to light summer tops, it can sometimes be a challenge to find a cotton yarn that produces a lightweight garment with a beautiful drape and visual interest. And to keep the knitting interesting, I often like to play with the stitch pattern to see if it can be tweaked so that the decreases or increases within the stitch pattern itself contribute to the garment shaping. I love the way the stitch pattern I chose to use here can do that—giving this tank an A-line shape—and how the colors in the yarn give this tank an extra bit of character.

I also like vertical ribs as trims for armholes but really dislike having to knit long narrow strips and sewing them on. A few years ago, I worked out a way to begin them as an applied edging that works into a part of the yoke without the need to sew them on, and I got the best of both worlds! I hope you like these edgings as much as I do.
