This is a modular pattern that can be adapted to any size and shape. It is ideal for showcasing handspun yarn with relatively slow colour changes. I used Wensleydale fibre hand-dyed by Hedgehog Fibres spun into an approximately sport- to fingering-weight 2-ply yarn. The slow colour changes, in combination with the random nature of the 2-ply, meant that no two shells were the same. A similar effect could be obtained with other yarns with slow colour transitions, such as many of the Noro yarns. However, equally lovely effects can be obtained with semi-solid or variegated hand-dyed yarns, or with multiple balls of yarn of different colours.

The blocked shawl measures approximately 60cm x 185cm (24” x 72”). Instructions are given for altering the size of the shawl to suit, or adjusting it to make the most of the yarn you have available.
