I hope this Christmas Stocking PDF knitting pattern will inspire you to rummage through your stash of yarn and use up any of those little odds and ends that might not be enough for a huge project but would make you up a great Christmas gift (or you can keep it yourself of course!).

The pattern can be personalised with your own name or message and of course you’re free to use any colours that take your fancy.

I’ve written the pattern for the Red, White, Blue and Green stocking but “the stash” presented me with some tinsel yarn and a whole other set of colours to try so who was I to resist?!

The finished stocking measures approximately 23 inches/58cm long and 8.5 inches/21.5cm wide. The pattern calls for approximately 150g/450 metres of Double Knitting weight yarn. I used a mixture of Red, White, Green and three shades of Blue but you can use any combination of colours you like. You’ll also need a pair of 4mm straight knitting needles (the stocking is knitted flat and then seamed), four 3cm/1 & 1 eighth inch buttons (I used wooden buttons which I then painted with acrylic paint) and a needle to sew everything together.

The pattern includes charts for the letters and other designs.
