This simple concept was born of my desire to drink while playing with some lovely thick and thin yarn I just had lying around. I had been toying around with the idea of making some kind of chunky lace thing with it…but lace requires sober concentration. That is, unless it’s drunken lace.
Seriously…the scarf is about as mindless as you can get and the hat is only slightly harder. The yarn itself dictates the pattern so there’s no chart required! So bust out the keg and get knitting!

Measurements:
6in. wide x 33in. long
.
Materials:
1 (or more) skein Sensations Licorice (87yds/80m), 100% wool, color #119, bulky weight.
Size 13 straight needles. (or 2 skeins Moda Dea Cartwheel (77yds), 100% wool, color # 9748 Neapolitan, worsted weight.

Gauge:
10 st. x 17 rows = 4 in. in drunken garter lace pattern on size 13 needles. Gauge is not critical.

Stitch Glossary:
YO: yarn over
K2tog: knit two stitches together.
Drunken garter lace pattern: Knit every row, but when the yarn gets thin, YO then K2tog. Repeat the (YO, K2tog) pair until the yarn becomes thick again. Over thick sections, just knit. Never work YO, K2tog at edges of scarf.

Notes:
• Be sure to block when finished. The will open up the lace work and help the scarf to lie flat.
• The moda dea yarn is apparently discontinued, but still available at places such as Ebay.
• Measurement and gauge info above is for the sensations yarn.
• Slip the first stitch of each row throughout. Do not work drunken lace pattern into the first or last two stitches of each row.
