This is a simple slightly slouchy beanie that knits up fast. A cable pattern reminiscent of the knots found in wood add a bit of detail for interest. A quick knit, it uses smaller needles to add negative ease in the brim, allowing for a comfortable fit.

The pattern includes ideas for altering the pattern, including making the fit “slouchier”. Designed for 10ply/Aran weight wool, this pattern suits solid or semi solid yarn as this allows for the cable detail to be seen.

Yardage requirements are 120/140/180/220 for the standard size beanie. Choosing an extra slouch option will require more yarn. However an extra slouchy beanie in the largest size can be achieved with one 200g ball of Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 10ply.

The sizes provided are toddler, child, small adult and large adult. The largest size will fit an adult with a head circumference of up to 63cm, while the smallest size toddler will comfortably fit a young child with a head circumference of 43cm to 48cm.

Please make sure to measure the recipient’s head circumference for the best fit. The pattern used average sizes. There is a small amount of flexibility in size however. A larger size will add a bit more slouch but it will be looser in the brim, a smaller size will produce a tighter fit but the hat height would need to be adjust to suit. Please choose the size closest to the head circumference and the style you prefer.
