Hi there!

After knitting a few beards from designs I found on this site, I realized they just weren’t exactly what I needed. I wanted something that would fit my face better, come up a bit higher on the cheeks, not gape around the mouth, and come up to cover my ears so that I could attach it to the inside of my favourite hat.

Here is the pattern - I really hope it makes sense! If there are any problems, please send me a message and I’ll correct it right away!

I have done two of these so far - the first one was using two strands of DK, and the second one with bulky (my modifications are listed below).

Double-stranded DK:

Use #8 needles (I used circulars, because that’s my preference)

CO 40 sts

Where it says “K” or “knit” or “K2tog”, it’s ALWAYS in the seed/moss pattern

Beard section:

Rows 1-5: Knit in moss/seed stitch pattern (K1P1 one row, then P1K1 the next, etc.)
Row 6: K2tog, K to last 2 sts, K2tog
Row 7: K
Row 8: K2tog, K to last 2 sts, K2tog
Row 9: K
Row 10: K2tog, K to last 2 sts, K2tog
Row 11: K
Row 12: BO 10, K to end
Row 13: BO 10, K to end

Mustache section (continued from Row 13):

Row 14-18: Pick Up (PU) and K 1 st, K to last st, PU 1 st and K it

(You want this section to come up just to the bottom edge of your mouth. Picking up and knitting stitches helps the mustache section blend in better with the beard, rather than having it stand out as its own chunk)

Row 19: (22 sts at this point - adjust according to what you have) K2tog, K5, BO8 (for mouth opening), K5 in moss, K2tog
Row 20: K5, turn and CO6, turn and K to end
Row 23: K2tog, K to last 2 sts, K2tog
Row 24: BO and tie in ends.

VOILA! An ear-warming beard :-)

Bulky:

#8 circular needle

CO 30

K in Moss/seed stitch

Rows 1-3: K
Row 4: K2tog, K to last 2 sts, K2tog
Row 5: K
Row 6: K2 tog, K to last 2 sts, K2tog
Row 7: K
Row 8 K2 tog, K to last 2 sts, K2tog
Row 9: K
Row 10: K2tog, K to last 2 sts, K2tog
Row 11: K
Row 12: BO 5, K to end
Row 13: BO 5, K to end
Rows 14-16: PU 1 st, K it, K to last st, PU 1 st and K it
Row 17: K2tog, K4, BO 6, K4, K2 tog
(Adjust accordingly. I prefer a smaller mouth opening, but you can bind off more or less depending on your preference)
Row 18: K4, turn and CO 5, turn back and K to end
Row 19: K2tog, K to last 2 sts, K2tog
Row 20: BO and tie in loose ends!

VOILA! Another beard!! I prefer the bulky one, actually. It looks more realistic :-)
