I made this vest for a good friend, which is expecting a boy. I want to knit something that can be wearing in different occasions or adjusting to different tastes. With jeans and a T-shirt the vest is casual; with a grey trouser and a shirt it looks more formal and sophisticated.

I like stripes garments, all kind of stripes. But this vest is special, with a classical touch of the grey and white stripes, broken with the deep red on the neck and arm bands. When I imagine the baby the name comes to me: a little Earl wearing in Grey. But if you want to knit the vest for a girl, it is very easy to adapt: just change the deep red by a more girly color like pink of purple and you will have a Countess Grey. Or change all the colors with any combination you love!

Baby vests are a wonderful project. They are super-quick projects. And also a very good excuse to use luxury and gorgeous yarns because not too much is needed. In this case, I used 3 spare skeins of very expensive yarn that I found reduced in a basket of a tiny shop.

Babies have large heads and once I had to re-knit a project because it has not enough room for a baby head. That is why this vest has a deep V-neck, but is also open in one shoulder, and so it is even easier to wear it.
