For Beginners

The easy cable beanie is a very simple knit and perfect for beginners. The beanie has a 6 stitch left twisted cable and 2 purl stitches repeated around. Thats it! The cable twist is a nice and easy one, as the cable needle is held in front and you can see what you are doing. This pattern includes a tutorial with pictures to help guide you through

Materials

3 to 4 (50g) balls of worsted weight yarn.

  • You might need more or less yarn depending on your tension and how big you want your pompom

-Using a light coloured yarn can help to show the cables off

US 7 (4.5mm) circular needle and set of double pointed needles.

-Use your smallest circumference circular needle as the stitches can tend to get tighter when you are doing the cable twists. I used 13.5 inch lace tips but the standard 16’ circulars will work.

Cable needle, stitch marker, tapestry needle, scissors, pompom maker

-Use a cable needle that is different at each end so that you can tell which way to knit without accidentally twisting your stitches

Gauge

Each 8 stitch pattern repeat is 1.5 inches wide and each 5 round cable repeat is 3/4 inch tall

Pattern notes

This hat is designed to fit an average adult sized head. If you would like to make your hat smaller or larger, you can by adding or subtracting pattern repeats. The pattern is 8 stitches repeated around 12 times to make a total of 96 stitches. Example- If you want a slightly smaller hat, subtract one 8 stitch repeat and you will cast on 88 stitches (8x 11 repeats).

The 5 round cable is repeated 8 times in this hat. You can change this for your hat if you want it smaller or larger. Leave a comment if you need any help with this.
